When a soldier was promoted, it was not unusual for him to be transferred to a different company where the vacancy existed. When a transfer between companies, for any reason, occurs the soldier is listed with the original company, but the new company (the last company in which he served) is also shown. The following is an example of a soldier being promoted and transferred and it also reflects differences in his name. It is believed that this is the same soldier in all three instances.

It should be noted that a few men are listed as being assigned to Company F&S which is in fact an indication that they were assigned to the Headquarters Staff.
Some records reflected the soldiers name but not the company to which he was assigned. Where the company assignment is unknown, the soldier is listed in the 'unk' company. Be sure to check this listing.
